• ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de - get the »latest warez« from the net.

  This big FTP site is maintained by good friends and me since 1992. The first logged transfer has been made on April 11th 1992 at 13:30:09. The setup of this server was a lot of fun, and it wouldn't have been possible without the support and help of the administrator of the Computer Science department (now known as Fakultät IV) at the Technical University Berlin (TUB).

  Nowadays, some people don't know what FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is. But there's more life on the Internet than only the World Wide Web. FTP offers fast downloads and easy-to-browse software collections. FTP sites are easy to mirror which is used distributes the load.

  ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de is one of the larger servers in Germany. We mirror everything online - have a look at the mirror list before you download from other sites. (oops, chances are that this file is a little bit outdated - there are much more mirrors active right now ... have to fix that ;-)

  Because my favourite OS at home no longer is AmigaOS but Linux, we have a copy of Fedora Core (current release, updates, extras stuff).

• IRC - Internet Relay Chat

  This is a fine place to meet nice people and have a good talk. IRC is one of the first internet based chat systems, and I prefer it over the so-called messaging services. If you read my homepage carefully, you already know what my favorite nickname on IRC is.

  I'm IRC Operator on one of Germany's biggest IRC servers irc.fu-berlin.de, but I'm usually not the guy who kills people for fun - however, you shouldn't bet on that.

• news.cs.tu-berlin.de - Usenet at it's best.

  I tried to help maintaining the news server at the Computer Science department (now known as Fakultät IV) at the Technical University Berlin (TUB). However, this service has been closed and is now offered by News.Individual.Net.

• Imagine a place where over 10.000 students can install software system-wide.

  Maintaining /home/pub/ at the computer science department of the Technical University of Berlin isn't just fun - it's a real challenge.

• German UUCP Worldmap.

  Maps for mail routing are relicts from the good old times. Nevertheless, I like them and, thus, maintaining the German Worldmap (Deutsche World-Map) for the IN e.V. and the sub-Netz e.V.

  The world-wide UUCP Mapping Project has been closed in 2000 by Stan Barber. Before that time, you could map entries to maps at fu-berlin.de - of course, after reading the help text (also available in de.answers) carefully.

  The German Worldmap (u.deu.100 - u.deu.199) is available from ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pub/misc/uumaps/.
